Scattered thoughts

  • Still no word from anyone associated with the memory card. It seems like the universe is against me finding the owner. I sent several pictures and an email to the http://ifoundyourcamera.blogspot.com/ website and they have never posted my pictures. They are slow to update the site so they maybe backlogged. I have also sent out snail mails to a church and a construction company,, still nothing back. I may have to surrender this battle.
  • From the fall last week, I have a good size black and green ringed strawberry bruise on my left hip. It is still sore but all in all, I cannot complain. I came out of it without any problems, other than a bruise to my ego. Luckily, I was not on a team run.
  • Last week, while in Deer Park, I got a 7 day pass to 24 hour fitness in Pasadena. (Thanks John!). Nice facilities there. Pool, basketball, aerobic court, steam room, all the usual gym stuff. Plus enough TVs to fill up a, well a fitness center. Unfortunately, while on the treadmill, the one directly in front of me was tuned to FOX news. I could not hear the sound but I was able to read the closed captions. It is sad to think that people actually get all their news and opinions from FOX. One "news item" that really caught my attention was about domestic violence. Domestic Violence has increased as the jobless rates have increased. From this, the Fox "talking heads" came to the conclusion that President Obama would reduce domestic violence if he did something about employment. There are so many variables that go into these statistics for both domestic violence and un-employment, I am not sure how they boiled it down and made the two connected. Frustrating.
  • The long run this weekend was 15 miles. I was out of town so; I had to run on my own. Monday night after work, I headed out on a solo 15 mile run. It was, by far, the best run that I have had in a long time. Everything just clicked. Nutrition was spot on, weather was chilly but not too cold, and I was by myself on the trails. Too dark and too cold for normal people or I should say smart people. There is a nice quiet on the trail at night. I know safety is a major concern when running at night but it is probably one of the most peaceful runs I can think of. It was a great run and one that sort of renews my confidence in being able to run, and enjoy it.
  • Since starting my diet change on January 4th, I have lost 10-12 pounds, depending on the time of day I weigh in. It is my first time to ever address nutrition. The easy part is making the change. Deciding to not eat poorly, resisting candy and cookies, all that stuff was pretty easy. Understanding how to eat is the tough part. For me, nutrition is rocket science. It is tough for me to figure out what to eat, how much, what is in the food, keeping track of it. For some reason, I am having a tough time with this aspect of nutrition. To help me on this part of my life, I am working with a nutritionist. We had our first meeting this week and I will be getting some meal plans and information from her.
  • Still do not have a 2010 race schedule in place. I know for sure, Galveston in April, Longhorn in October, Conroe in November. A bunch of short distance races in the Austin area throughout the year and one more half-IM in the late summer.
  • Do I need a bucket list?
  • In most cases, I admire and envy the people who can journal with complete freedom and openness.

And that is all I have to say about that.

  1. I think you are maybe already living your non-existent bucket list :) And "I told you so"...that your run would come back to you!!! So happy for you. And hoping I can keep up with you on Sunday. P.S. I think you say way more than you realize in your blogs.
